Brugges, Austria

Well, our last couple days have been absolutely amazing. We arrived in Brugge with absolutely no problem. The train from Brussels there was only an hour. Our Bed and Breakfast there was absolutely amazing. It was situated along the canals on a quiet street. It was about a 10 minute walk from the town center and a 3 minute walk from the windmills. It was owned by a lady and her husband and was an artist's delight. There was a collection of dolls and artwork everywhere. It was so unique. Our room had its own little breakfast nook and every morning we were provided with free breakfast.

The day we arrived we dropped off our bags and went exploring. We first went the the Basilica of the Holy Blood and saw and touched the vial of Christ's blood. It was a once in a lifetime experience. The Basilica was rather small surprisingly but the experience was unforgettable. We then went to the town hall and the Renaissance museum which were both rather disappointing. Just big rooms, however the architecture there was quiet interesting. We just strolled around for the remainder of the evening.

The next day was probably one of my favorite days we have had so far. We went on a boat trip through the canals of the city and saw the city from an entirely different perspective. It was also interesting because the guide knew all of the secrets of the city, things that the everyday person would just pass by. It was also interesting because he pointed out the modern advancements in the city as compared to the old. Everyone agreed that the character of the city is being destroyed by these "advancements."

We then rented bicycles and rode through all of the side cobblestone streets of Brugges. This was an awesome experience because the city center it self if VERY touristy. It was a nice escape to get away from that. We rode up to the windmills and saw them actually working. Then we traveled through the streets and saw may of the smaller churches and less traveled sights. Later that night we went to a wine and cheese cafe at the suggestion of the owner of our bed and breakfast. The owner of the bar played his guitar and sang with another gentleman playing the piano. We spent the night listening to some of my favorite songs (i.e. Wonderful Tonight) while sitting in a garden sipping an assortment of wine.
