Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Last night was quite an experience, and unfortunately it was not a very happy one. The independence day party was rather interesting. there was not much to do besides walk around and get wasted, which most of the people did. There was four stages set up with live music however, they were all cover bands that sounded the same and sang very poor renditions of American music. The rest of the time people just milled around causing trouble.

At about 10 pm the Duke finally showed up for a fire parade done by the boy and girl scouts, which was pretty cool to look at. Surprisingly there were not that many people in the square watching it with us. They were in a different square, the one with the alcohol. But this provided us with excellent front row seats.

We strolled down to the grund and found a spot for the grand fireworks display that was to start at 11pm. They kicked off at about 12pm but were absolutely amazing. We were so close that we had fireworks debris falling all over us but the view was the best I have ever had.

Then unfortunately the night took a very sour note. There are only two bridges back to our hotel and one was closed because it was where the fireworks were set off from. This left us with only one option. When we got down to the bridge it was a very ugly scene. The bridge was packed shoulder to shoulder with angry, drunk people. There were absolutely thousands of people on this bridge and we were stuck in the middle of a riot. We finally broke free of the riot after about 45 minutes and off to the side after fighting the crowds and getting knocked over. We realized that the situation was going to turn dangerous and we just wanted out. So we waited on the side hopeful that some Police or other officials would show up and ease the situation, but they never did.

After about an hour the crowd dispersed and we were able to cross the bridge. This delay however, caused us to miss the last bus to our hotel so we had about and hour walk back to our hotel through some pretty sketchy neighborhoods.

Just remember the answer if anyone ever asks you if they should go to Luxembourg...
NO

Well, we arrived here in Luxembourg yesterday with no difficulties. However, we have not been terribly impressed with the city. For example, while we were standing out in front of the train station waiting for the bus to take us to our hotel we were approached by  4 different drug sellers asking if we wanted to purchase a variety of drugs. interesting...
It also seems that the entire city is situated very close to the international airport so about every 15 minutes we have a giant jet flying over our head. The city itself is pretty slummed out and dirty and for  some reason VERY VERY expensive.

Yesterday after arriving we walked into the city to explore a bit. We went to the Cathedral of Notre Dame. The church was rather small and very modern looking. The highlight or main attraction of the church was a small Madonna and Child statue situated at the front of the church. We then strolled further into town and found it to be a modern city. Pretty much like a smaller suburb of NYC. There is a lot of shopping but not many tourist attractions.
Today has been rather cold and quiet. We had an AWESOME time however, exploring the old city wall that was once used as the city`s main defense. These walls are a series of tunnels and rooms that you can explore through. Most of the wall was torn down with the treaty of London in the late 19th century. But there is still a bit left. The best part of the tunnels was peeking out some of the small outlook posts and seeing some incredible panoramic views of the surrounding gorges. I also accidently woke some sleeping bats up in the well with my camera flash.
